Bo Kaap-Cape Town

Image
With Signal Hill standing proudly at the backdrop, the houses of Bo-Kaap are very bright and colourful. A lot of people consider the area to be one of the trendiest areas of Cape Town. De Waterkant, the neighbouring town of Bo kaap is a fine example of transformation of a city into one of the most voguish and expensive areas over the recent areas. Some of the finest restaurants and wine bars are situated here and now you could understand why it was on our top list when we booked our flights to South Africa . Reaching early on fine Saturday morning last week, we took a trail along the corner of Buitengracht and Wale Street and walked towards the Signal Hill which lead to Bo-Kaap. The fascinating town in neighbourhood holds the time beautifully, where children play untroubled in the narrow alleys. Most of the buildings here date back to the year 1840 which have amazingly survived the apartheid years in South Africa. We stopped at the Bo-kaap museum for about two hours f...

Kolmanskop Ghost Town- Feel the Fear-Namibia

Image
It was a fine evening and i was sitting in the porch of my house after returning from office.  A cup of hot coffee in one hand and handset in other, having spent half an hour with my friend on call both of us finally decided that our next vacation would be to Kolmanskop ghost town at Nambia in Africa as we had heard a lot about the creepy place. Disconnecting the call, I immediately booked the air tickets to Africa to avail  discounts if any. Our trip was planned for next weekend and we hit the ghost town early in the morning that weekend to make the maximum of the trip. Right outside the coastal city of Luderitz in Nambia, lies this old German mining town of Kolmanskop which was long deserted by life and it was quite explicit in the view of the place. As far as the eyes went there was no evidence of life. All looked so barren and forsaken. Whole of the town was engulfed by the Namib Desert. The huge edifices and houses depicting German architecture lied empty and ...

Seven Coloured Earth - Chamarel - Mauritius

Image
While planning a four days tour to the trendiest destination of Mauritius in Africa, a thought kept hovering over our mind that the worthiness of our expedition would certainly be questioned, if we will return without visiting the Chamarel Plain of the Riviere Noire District in south western Mauritius. We, therefore decided to pay homage to the Land of Seven Hues also, and our search for the top flights to Africa began. This famous tourist attraction in Mauritius is a somewhat small area of land, comprising of sand dunes with differentially coloured layers that never erode in spite of the pouring tropical rains. A drive amid the lush green sugarcane plantation and the subsequent coffee plantation, lead us to seven coloured earth of Mauritius but as we were moving ahead we were least aware of another excitement that awaited us on the way i.e the Waterfall of Chamarel that came few kilometres before the Chamarel Plains. It was like an icing on the much awaited seven layere...

Cradle of Humankind-Johannesburg

Image
Going 45 minutes beyond the hustle bustle of Johannesburg is an ancient, natural wonder that seems to be belonging to the world of boondocks. It is called the Cradle of Humankind and it is an attraction that you can’t afford to miss at any cost when you are in Johannesburg.  Though i had been hearing about the Cradle of the Humankind since years but was not really very thrilled to go as i  was not actually keen to know the history of humankind or story of human evolution. I did not like the subject in my school days too but the way it was depicted here at the Cradle was something most amazing and interesting. The way they described how we evolved millions of years back and every detail of the history that is hidden between the layers of the rocks was very fascinating.  A lot more was added to our already existing knowledge. The two main attractions in that area are Maropeng and the Sterkfontein Caves. The uniqueness of the Maropeng includes overview of the last fe...

Ghanaian flavoursome Cuisine

Image
Ghana has strived to hold on to it's age long culture since centuries which has bestowed it with the honour of being one of the most traditionally rich places in the world and this richness is quite explicit in it's local cuisine. Some of the tastiest dishes in the world come from Ghana's kitchen as they incorporate local crops and seasonal foods in the best possible manner. It is very difficult to select a few for ranking but still I have chosen some most popular ones that you should definitely order in Ghanaian restaurant, when you plan your trip to this country and book your flights to Accra from London . 1) Chichinga- The best way to experience a country’s cuisine is through it’s street food and Chichinga is one of the few Ghanaian foods which is best able to portray the real taste of Ghana through it’s mouth watering Kebabs made from beef and sausages. 2)  Banku – If you are crazy for anything about corn, Banku is the dish that you can rely upon. It is mad...
